The Department of Health, Nutrition, and Exercise Sciences at NDSU offers all students an opportunity to acquire skills and knowledge that aid in developing a personal, lifetime wellness concept, and to serve as teachers and leaders of health, nutrition, dietetics, physical education, recreation, and athletics. The Department has 19 full-time faculty members including academic program faculty and Food, Nutrition, and Wellness Extension faculty. The Department offers Master’s options in Athletic Training, Exercise Science, Nutrition Science, Sport Pedagogy, and Sport and Recreation Management, and an on-line Master’s program in Dietetics.  The Department also provides leadership for the Wellness Track of the Ph.D. program in Human Development. Undergraduate majors are available in Dietetics, Exercise Science, and Sport and Recreation Studies.  Students in the Exercise Science program can take courses to prepare them to enter Physical Therapy or Athletic Training programs.   Central Michigan University is seeking a highly accomplished individual with the vision and proven administrative acumen to lead and advance The Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow College of Health Professions to new levels of national prominence.

The College, with a budget of $12.5 million, enrolls approximately 1300 undergraduate and over 200 master's and doctoral students on campus, and approximately 500 graduate students off-campus via distance learning, and is supported by 143 faculty and staff as well as 92 graduate assistants and student workers.  The academic units that comprise the College include: the Department of Communication Disorders; Department of Physical Education and Sport; School of Health Sciences; and School of Rehabilitation and Medical Sciences. The College offers graduate professional programs at the doctoral level in Physical Therapy, Audiology, and Health Administration. Responsibilities: 
The dean is the chief academic officer of the College, reports directly to the Executive Vice President/Provost, and serves on the Council of Deans. The successful candidate will be expected to lead strategic and long-range planning efforts and work with others to implement change, including:  raising standards for student and faculty performance; recruiting new faculty who are committed to strong scholarship and teaching; fostering faculty development; increasing relevant and prominent scholarship and external grant activity; encouraging, strengthening and broadening alumni and community relations, and collaborations with health-related providers and organizations; advancing the College’s successful development/fundraising program; and promoting international partnerships. The Dean is also expected to advance diversity and facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration both within the College and between it and the other CMU colleges.

Qualifications:  academic credentials in a health-related field at a level required for appointment as a tenured full professor within the college; evidence of effective communication skills; demonstrated success with shared governance; a strong record of advocacy for diversity; evidence of outstanding administrative and leadership experience at the department chair level or higher; strong budgeting and financial planning experience; knowledge of a wide-range of health disciplines; and an understanding of and commitment to public higher education.

Additionally, preferred qualifications include: successful fundraising experience; experience in development of innovative programs, distance learning, and collaborative endeavors; and a commitment to the utilization of technology for the advancement of instruction, research and clinical excellence.

POSITION:  The University of Delaware invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the College of Health Sciences. The Dean provides academic leadership for over 100 faculty in five departments/school (Health, Nutrition and Sports Studies, Kinesiology and Applied Physiology, Medical Technology, Nursing, and Physical Therapy) that enroll approximately 1700 undergraduate and 250 graduate students.  Reporting directly to the Provost, the Dean occupies a key role in the life of the University and must function effectively as part of the central administrative team, including active participation in University development activities.

QUALIFICATION:  The successful candidate should possess strong interpersonal and communication skills with an outstanding academic record consistent with a senior faculty appointment. The Dean should have experience in recruiting and retaining faculty of excellence and be able to manage a complex academic enterprise in a collaborative manner. The Dean must provide vision for the college and foster both vigorous research programs and excellent undergraduate and graduate education across the breadth of disciplines within the college. An ability to develop innovative academic programs and to promote the college's interests with internal and external constituencies within the state and at the national/international level is important for the position. The Dean must be committed to interdisciplinary and multicultural education and have a record of promoting diversity. The successful candidate must possess an earned doctorate or equivalent degree in one of the disciplines or related fields in the College of Health Sciences.
