exercise biochemistry and physiology. This is an interdisciplinary appointment,
50% in the Department of Biological Sciences, in the College of Arts and
Sciences, and 50% in the Department of Kinesiology, Health Promotion, and
Recreation (KHPR), in the College of Education, at the University of North
Texas.
Qualifications: The candidate for this position must hold a doctoral
degree in exercise physiology, biochemistry, or a closely related area. The
candidate must demonstrate a focused line of research, and must have a history
of obtaining external grants.
Responsibilities: Primary responsibilities may include but are not
limited to: (1) teach undergraduate and graduate courses in exercise
biochemistry and exercise physiology; (2) conduct research and publish findings
in high-quality refereed journals; (3) seek and obtain external funding; and (4)
participate in departmental, college, and university-wide committees. Summer
teaching is contingent on student demand and funding.
The Department of KHPR is actively pursuing the implementation of a doctoral
program in kinesiology. The successful candidate will be expected to play a
leading role in the effort to bring a doctoral program to the department.
Rank and Salary: Professor. The salary is competitive and is
commensurate with experience and background.
Laboratories: A 50 m2 laboratory in the Department of KHPR houses a MedGraphics
metabolic cart, a Lode cycle ergometer, two research treadmills, various other
upper and lower body ergometers, portable lactate analyzers, and an underwater
weighing tank. A 35 m2 laboratory offers a Biodex stability system, a force
platform, and basic resistance exercise equipment. The department of KHPR is in
the process of expanding available lab space to approximately twice its present
area.
Excellent faculty and research facilities in biology/physiology, biochemistry,
molecular biology and environmental science make the Department of Biological
Sciences one of the most productive departments at UNT.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will: 1) be responsible for
delivering quality instruction in undergraduate courses in exercise physiology,
exercise test technology, measurement & evaluation, and/or exercise testing
&prescription; 2) pursue a focused area of research and scholarship that
culminates in nationally refereed publications, professional presentations, and
submission of grant proposals, and be involved in scholarly projects with
faculty; 3) hold active membership in relevant professional
associations/organizations; and 4) serve on committees and participate in
official activities at the department, college and university levels.
Qualifications:
Required:
Earned doctorate in Exercise Physiology/Kinesiology/Physical Education or
closely related field prior to appointment date; and
Emerging or established line of research and scholarship in the area of Exercise
Physiology.
Preferred:
Experience or participation in grant-writing and obtaining external funding for
exercise science research projects;
University teaching experience in exercise and sport science, specifically in
exercise physiology, exercise test technology, measurement &evaluation, and/or
exercise testing & prescription;
Demonstrated involvement in program, university and professional service
activities and organizations; and
Ability to integrate a diversity/multicultural perspective into teaching
methods.

The Department and College: The Department of Exercise Science, Sport,
Physical Education, and Recreation (ESPER, http://education.odu.edu/esper/) at
Old Dominion University is seeking qualified candidates for the position. ESPER
is one of five departments in the Darden College of Education

degree programs in exercise science, health and physical education teacher
