FITNESS AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR / TENURE TRACK

UNIVERSITY OF WYOMING


Position:
 Tenure track Assistant Professor, Division of Kinesiology and Health,

College of Health Sciences, University of Wyoming, beginning August 2011.
 

Responsibilities:

SCHOLARSHIP – Develop a research program that leads to nationally/internationally refereed publications and presentations; pursue and obtain funding for research (NB: supplemental start-up funding may be available for suitably qualified candidates through UW-INBRE); and direct graduate/undergraduate research projects.

TEACHING – Provide quality instruction at the undergraduate and graduate levels in the successful candidate’s area of expertise.

SERVICE – Advise/mentor undergraduate and graduate students; provide service to the division, college, university, state, and profession.

Qualifications:  Earned doctorate with evidence of research productivity examining the relationship between physical activity and human health; and evidence of university level teaching experience.  Preferred Post-doctoral research experience with a focus in one, or more, of the following specializations: the genetic factors underlying fitness and activity, the assessment of physical activity, the role of nutrition or psychology in physical activity.


Salary:  Commensurate with qualifications.

Division:  Administratively housed in the College of Health Sciences, the Division of Kinesiology and Health has 12 full-time tenure-track faculty members and two extended-term academic professionals. Our faculty have consistently

received research grant and contract support from diverse extramural agencies including the NIH, U.S. Department of Education, WY Departments of Education and Health, and the American Heart Association.  Two undergraduate majors are offered leading to the B.S. degree; one in Kinesiology and Health Promotion, and one in Physical Education Teaching.  Graduate students may pursue either a M.S. (thesis and non-thesis) in Kinesiology and Health, or a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences. Currently, there are over 400 undergraduates and 40 graduates majoring in the programs offered.
 

University:  The University of Wyoming, founded in 1886 at Laramie, is an educational research community of more than 12,000 students. Approximately two hours by car north of Denver, CO, Laramie is situated at 7,200 feet above sea level on the high plains of southeastern Wyoming between the scenic Laramie Range to the east and the spectacular Medicine Bow Mountains to the west.
