Position:  The Department of Kinesiology and Health Studies at Southeastern Louisiana University invites applicants for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor Position in Health Education and Promotion to begin August 2009. 

Responsibilities:  Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in health (e.g., personal and community health, drug education, human sexuality, women's health, stress management).  Additional responsibilities include academic advising, engaging in research and scholarly activities, and university service.

Qualifications:  The successful candidate must have a doctorate degree specializing in Health Education/Promotion or closely related field. ABD candidates may apply, however, to be eligible for the position; applicants must have completed all requirements for the doctorate degree by June 1, 2009. Employment at the Associate Professor rank required university teaching experience and scholarly productivity commensurate with the university's guidelines for promotion from Assistant to Associate Professor. The following abilities are required: plan and deliver quality instruction; engage in a level of scholarship and professional service meeting departmental and university expectations for advancement; participate in service activities that benefit the department and university; maintain positive relationships with students, faculty and staff; complete instructional and administrative tasks in a timely manner. Desired qualifications include university teaching experience, evidence of scholarly productivity and potential to establish and maintain lines of research, and CHES certification.

Position:  Coastal Carolina University, Program in Health Promotion in the School of Health, Kinesiology, and Sport Studies, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor position in Health Promotion beginning in August 2009.  The Bachelor of Science degree in Health Promotion has been the fastest growing programs on the Coastal Carolina University campus and the institution plans further growth and development in the health sciences. 

Responsibilities:  include teaching content and process undergraduate courses in areas such as philosophy and principles of health promotion/education, community health, international health, epidemiology, evaluation of health programs, or other assigned support courses.  Courses may be delivered in a traditional format or via interactive, and distance learning.  Opportunities will also be available for teaching graduate courses in various content areas of public/community health. The position requires advisement of undergraduate/graduate students, mentoring of student research, establishment of outstanding scholarship and professional service/outreach, collaboration with related academic programs, assisting in curriculum development, and supporting SABPAC undergraduate program approval efforts. 

Qualifications:  an earned Doctorate in Public Health or Health Promotion, evidence of scholarly productivity, documented excellence in teaching, and CHES certification.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Earned doctorate in physical education with pedagogy emphasis required; P-12 teaching experience preferred; Background in assessment, adapted physical education, and/or technology preferred; Experience with on-line instruction using WebCT or similar system preferred; Record of scholarly productivity, professional involvement, and service desired.  Success in securing external funding and entrepreneurial endeavors a plus.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  Successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in teacher certification programs, supervise student interns, and fulfill other teaching responsibilities in the department.  Successful candidate will initiate or continue significant professional involvement and an active scholarship agenda of experimental or applied research. Participation in program development, department and campus service, and service in schools is expected.

Position Description:  Assistant Professor, full-time tenure track position. Duties include teaching undergraduate/graduate courses in physical and health education as well as content specific courses such as Curriculum and Instruction both for the teacher preparation and graduate curriculum.  The program is fully accredited under the new NASPE standards, has a minimum undergraduate 2.75 GPA for admission to teacher education, and has a graduate (masters) program with options for currently licensed teachers as well as initial licensure candidates.

Required Qualifications:  The successful applicant is expected to have a doctoral degree in physical education/and or health education or a content area related to the teacher preparation curriculum, the ability to model effective teaching practices, and a strong commitment to scholarship and research.  Lastly, the candidate will provide service to the University, College, Department, profession and community.

Preferred Qualifications:  Experience as a practitioner in the field and evidence of previous successful college/university teaching experience in physical education and/or health education. A preferred area for research is developing strategies for physical activity/fitness promotion in the public schools.

The Department and College:  The Department of Exercise Science, Sport, Physical Education, and Recreation (ESPER, http://education.odu.edu/esper/) at Old Dominion University is seeking qualified candidates for the position. ESPER is one of five departments in the Darden College of Education (http://education.odu.edu/) and offers on-campus baccalaureate and master’s degree programs in exercise science, health and physical education teacher preparation, recreation/tourism studies, and sport management as well as a master’s degree program in athletic training. The recently approved Ph.D. in Education; concentration Human Movement Science, includes emphasis areas in Curriculum and Instruction and Applied Kinesiology.  ESPER currently has
15 full-time faculty members; approximately 50 adjunct faculty members; 12 department-funded graduate assistants; two administrative support employees; approximately 700 undergraduate majors; and approximately 100 graduate majors.  An in-progress new building will include state-of-the-art instructional and research facilities.
