Position:  Motor Learning and Control tenure-track position in the Department of Kinesiology, College of Health and Human Development.  Job Control Number 23603G-09-060

Responsibilities: 
In addition to the above specialization, areas of teaching responsibility may include measurement and statistics, introduction to kinesiology, research methods, and/or gerokinesiology.  Successful applicants will be expected to conduct research and engage in other scholarly activities; participate in curriculum development; advise and direct student research and graduate theses/ projects/exams; provide Department, College, and University service; and provide academic advisement. 

Qualifications:  Earned doctorate in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or related field; focused ongoing scholarly/creative activity with a record of peer-reviewed publications and potential to attract external funding; successful teaching performance in relevant courses; evidence of significant professional and leadership activities; and ability to work successfully within a culturally diverse university and community.

Rank & Salary:  Positions are at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor, depending on experience.  Salaries are competitive and commensurate with rank, experience and qualifications. Periodic salary adjustments are enacted by the state legislature. Additional teaching in summer and intersession is often available. Position:  The Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation (HPER) at Texas State University-San Marcos invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor in Exercise and Sports Science. The Department of HPER serves undergraduate and graduate students seeking degrees in Exercise and Sport Science, Athletic Training, Health Education and Recreation. This is a full-time, tenure-track faculty position with a nine-month academic year appointment, beginning September 1, 2009.

Responsibilities:  The successful candidate will: 1) be responsible for delivering quality instruction in undergraduate and graduate courses in motor learning and control; 2) be expected to pursue a focused area of research and scholarship that culminates in nationally refereed publications, professional presentations, and submission of grant proposals; 3) guide graduate student research; 4) hold active membership in relevant professional associations/organizations; and 5) serve on committees and participate in official activities at the department, college and university levels. Interpersonal and communication skills that promote strong collaborations in research, teaching and program development with established faculty within the Department, College and University are essential.

Qualifications:
Required:
Earned doctorate in Exercise Science, or closely related field prior to appointment date; and
Emerging or established line of research and scholarship in motor learning, control, or development.
Preferred:
Experience or participation in grant-writing and obtaining external funding for exercise science research projects;
University teaching experience in exercise and sport science, specifically in motor learning, control, or development;
An ability to work with faculty and staff in a broad range of academic programs, including Health, Physical Education, and Recreation;
Demonstrated involvement in program, university and professional service activities and organizations; and
Ability to integrate a diversity/multicultural perspective into teaching methods.

Position Description:  Assistant Professor, full-time tenure track position. Duties include teaching undergraduate/graduate courses in physical and health education pedagogy as well as content specific courses such as motor control/development/learning at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The undergraduate physical and health education program is fully accredited under the new NASPE standards, has a minimum undergraduate 2.75 GPA for admission to teacher education, and has a graduate (masters) program with options for currently licensed teachers as well as initial licensure candidates.  A new Ph.D. program in Education, concentration in Human Movement Science, with emphases in Curriculum and Instruction, and Applied Kinesiology is intended to prepare individuals for faculty research and administrative positions within departments that offer programs such as athletic training, health and physical education, exercise science, physical therapy, and biomechanics. 

Qualifications:  The successful applicant is expected to have a doctoral degree in physical education or kinesiology-related area with a content area focus of motor control, motor development, or motor learning. In addition, the candidate will be able to model effective teaching practices, and possess a strong commitment to scholarship and research.  Lastly, the candidate will provide service to the University, College, Department, profession and community.  A preferred area for research is motor control/development/learning.

The Department and College:  The Department of Exercise Science, Sport, Physical Education, and Recreation (ESPER, http://education.odu.edu/esper/) at Old Dominion University is seeking qualified candidates for the position. ESPER is one of five departments in the Darden College of Education (http://education.odu.edu/) and offers on-campus baccalaureate and master’s degree programs in exercise science, health and physical education teacher preparation, recreation/tourism studies and sport management, as well as a master’s degree program in athletic training. The recently approved Ph.D. in Education, concentration Human Movement Science, includes emphasis areas in Curriculum and Instruction and Applied Kinesiology.  ESPER currently has
15 full-time faculty; approximately 50 adjunct faculty members; 12 department-funded graduate assistants; two administrative support employees; approximately 700 undergraduate majors; and approximately 100 graduate majors.  A new building, scheduled to open January 2009 will include state-of-the-art instructional and research facilities.
