Coastal Carolina University, Program in Recreation and Sport Management in the School of Health, Kinesiology, and Sport Studies announces a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Recreation Management beginning in August, 2009.

Position:  The Recreation and Sport Management program seeks highly qualified individuals who will play an integral role in the continued development of programs and initiatives in the major. The institution plans growth and development in the recreation and leisure sciences as applied to the environment, aging populations, and/or commercial settings.

Responsibilities:  include undergraduate courses in the program to be selected from, but not limited to: area and facility management; introduction to recreation and sport management, outdoor recreation, commercial recreation, recreation for active aging, program planning and promotion, supervision of fieldwork, ecotourism, and recreation administration.  Position requires undergraduate student advisement, mentoring of undergraduate student research, establishing a record of scholarship and professional service/outreach, developing/advancing curriculum and collaborating with related academic programs.

Qualifications:  Candidates must possess an earned Doctorate in Recreation, Leisure or highly related discipline (ABD considered); evidence of scholarly productivity; excellence in teaching; record of community/public engagement; and experience in student advising and mentoring.

Position:  The Recreation and Tourism Studies (RTS) program at Old Dominion University is pleased to announce a tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning in the Fall semester of 2009.

Responsibilities:  Instruct undergraduate RTS courses in the core curriculum, the recreation and tourism management emphasis area, and graduate courses in recreation and tourism management.  Assist in the development of a community recreation and youth development emphasis area.  Direct graduate student research and theses.  Provide academic advisement and supervise internships. Participate in scholarly activities that include nationally refereed publications, submittal of grant proposals, and professional presentations.  Serve on departmental, college, and university committees.

Qualifications:  The successful applicant is expected to have a doctoral degree in recreation and parks/leisure studies or related field, the ability to employ effective teaching practices, and a strong commitment to scholarship and research.  Additional qualifications include experience as a practitioner in the field and evidence of previous successful college/university teaching experience in recreation and parks/leisure studies.  Knowledge and experience in community recreation and youth development preferred.

Related Information:  The Recreation and Tourism Studies program’s undergraduate curriculum is accredited by the NRPA Council on Accreditation.  The RTS undergraduate program currently has two emphasis areas; recreation and tourism management and therapeutic recreation.  The graduate program recently initiated course offerings via podcasting distance learning in the Summer of 2007 and will be fully on-line in the Fall of 2008.
