ADAPTED PE
Assistant/Associate Professor, Tenure
Track
California State University, Northridge
Responsibilities: Primary
responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate
courses in adapted
physical activity and motor behavior; secondary teaching
responsibilities may include
other closely related courses offered within the
department. The successful candidate may be required to
teach on weekdays, including evenings, and possibly
weekends. The typical teaching load is 12 units per
semester. Faculty are also responsible
for: student advisement; supervision of graduate research
projects; maintaining
an active program of scholarly research and publication;
seeking grants and
outside funding for research projects in adapted physical
activity and/or motor
behavior; service on department, college and university
committees as appropriate. The successful candidate will
work closely
with faculty and staff at the Center of Achievement through
Adapted Physical
Activity, and with other motor behavior faculty in the
department.
Qualifications:
Required: Applicants must possess a doctorate in
Kinesiology or closely related field of study. ABD
candidates will be considered but must
have completed the doctorate degree before August 22, 2012.
Desired qualifications
include: 1) Expertise and ability to teach in one or more of
the following areas:
adapted physical activity, motor coordination and control,
motor learning, and/or
motor development; 2) Ability to teach in closely related
areas, such as
adapted aquatics, adapted fitness, adapted physical education,
biomechanics,
and/or functional anatomy; 3) Evidence of successful teaching
experience at the
college or university level; 4) Evidence of research ability
and ongoing
scholarly productivity; 5) Clinical experience with adapted
fitness or
therapeutic exercise programs.
Applicants should possess a broad and balanced view of the
discipline of
Kinesiology, valuing equally the biological, socio-cultural
and aesthetic
knowledge of human movement across the life span. Applicants
must demonstrate a commitment to
working with a diverse student population.
Experience with online teaching and instructional technology
is highly
desirable. CSUN

will be expected to
join faculty and staff in a commitment to active learning, to
the assessment of
learning outcomes, and to multiple pathways that enable
students to graduate. At
time of appointment, the successful candidate, if not a U.S.
citizen, must have
authorization from the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration
Services to work
in the United States. Evidence
of degree(s) required at time of hire.
