Assistant/Associate Professor of Dance Tenure Track (Dance Science and Dance Performance Emphasis)
California State University, Northridge

Responsibilities: Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in dance, dance science, and in the Kinesiology major core curriculum. Teach departmental courses offered in the university General Education program. The successful candidate may be required to teach on weekdays, including evenings, and possibly weekends.  Participate in curricular design and program development activities, and become familiar with National Association of Schools of Dance (NASD) accreditation procedures.  Faculty are also responsible for student advisement, supervision of graduate research projects, building a pattern of scholarship and professional activities, and service on department, college and university committees as appropriate.

Qualifications:  Applicants must possess an MFA or doctorate in Dance or Kinesiology or closely related field of study. ABD candidates will be considered but must have completed the required MFA or doctorate degree in Dance or Kinesiology or closely related field of study before August 22, 2012.  Desired qualifications include: 1) Expertise in Dance Science in one or more of the following areas: biomechanics, injury prevention and management, motor learning and motor control, nutrition, physiology, exercise psychology, aesthetics of human movement; 2) Extensive background and expertise in modern/contemporary, ballet, and/or urban street dance; 3) Teaching experience at the college or university level; and 4) Evidence of successful scholarship, publication, and/or externally reviewed creative work.  Applicants should possess a broad and balanced view of the discipline of Kinesiology, valuing equally the biological, socio-cultural and aesthetic knowledge of human movement across the life span. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to working with a diverse student population.  Experience with on-line teaching and instructional technology is highly desirable. CSUN is a Learning Centered University. The successful candidate will be expected to join faculty and staff in a commitment to active learning, to the assessment of learning outcomes, and to multiple pathways that enable students to graduate. At time of appointment, the successful candidate, if not a U.S. citizen, must have authorization from the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services to work in the United States. Evidence of degree(s) required at time of hire.
