I. Name
The name of the committee shall be the Publications Committee of the National Association for Kinesiology & Physical Education in Higher Education.
II. COMMITTEE CHAIR AND TERM OF OFFICE
A. The Director of Publication shall chair the Publications Committee and shall be appointed by the President. It is expected that the chairperson of the committee would have had considerable experience as an editor, and would have been an editor of a NAKPEHE publication or comparable publication.
B. The director shall be appointed for a three (3) year term of office.
III. PURPOSE
A. To oversee the publications of NAKPEHE, specific editorial policy, quality, and consistency with the mission of NAKPEHE.
B. To provide Quest, Monograph, Opera and Chronicle a liaison to the Board.
C. To communicate with publishing house regarding policies and contracts.
D. Coordinate the duties of the publications committee members at the annual conference.
IV. PLAN OF ORGANIZATION
A. The committee shall be a standing committee of the Association.
B. The Publications Committee shall also include:
i. The Editor of the journal (Quest)
ii. The Editor of the newsletter (Chronicle of Kinesiology & Physical Education in Higher Education).
iii. Three members appointed by the President for three staggered terms, (including the OPERA Editor and the NAKPEHE Vice President Elect).
C. All committee members shall be members of NAKPEHE and shall be appointed and approved by the Board of Directors.
D. Resignations from the committee shall be presented to the President who shall appoint a successor to complete the unexpired term.
E. The committee chair shall be a member of the Association Board of Directors.
V. CONDUCT OF BUSINESS
A. Committee members will work independently as appointed editor within their operating guidelines and under the direction and supervision of the Director of Publications.
B. The Chairperson (Director of Publications) shall maintain a file of correspondence between editorial committee members and publication houses.
C. Editorial committee members shall forward copies of correspondence with publication houses to the committee chairperson (Director of Publications), and shall retain and file correspondence from professionals regarding submitted manuscripts or other materials submitted for publication, and forward the file to a newly appointed committee member at the end of the term of office.
D. Each editorial committee member shall submit to the Director of Publications for approval, those persons to serve their publication as manuscript reviewers.
VI. REPORTS
An annual written report of this committee's activities shall be submitted by the committee chairperson (Director of Publications) to the President of the Association and Board of Directors at a specified date. It shall include an account of each publication, subscription rates, publication costs, and future recommendations for the Association's publications.
VII. FINANCIAL SUPPORT
Expenses of the committee shall be defrayed by the Association within the limitations of the established budget. Additional funds may be requested when necessary.
All receipts for expenses must be submitted to the Executive Secretary/Treasurer no later than February 1st from the previous fiscal year which ends November 30th.

The editor is appointed by the President for a period of three (3) years.
II. PURPOSES AND DUTIES
The editor is responsible for the compilation of nine issues (three per year).
This responsibility includes:
A. Consultation with the President, Vice-President for Publications and publishing company editorial assistant.
B. Working directly with associate editors (Administrative issues scholarly publications, issues, political window, international, research, and technology associate editors).
C. Editing of copy.
D. Format and layout suggestions to the publishing company editorial assistant.
III. PLAN OF ORGANIZATION
A. Establish all deadline dates with the publisher.
B. Inform all executive board members of deadline dates for receipt of copy.
C. Edit all copy as received from associate editors.
D. Provide a complete layout format for the publisher that includes.
1. Five columns (Political Window, Issue I, Issue 2, Issue 3, International, Research Notes and Scholarly Publications).
2. One feature article on an Administrative Issue (solicited by the editors).
3. One lead feature written by the editor or guest written.
4. NAKPEHE News (limited to two pages and centered in the spine section of the publication).
5. A President's Message.
6. Additional material including: Events; CKPEHE Deadlines; Newsletter Summary; and a list of editor, executive secretary-treasurer, board of officers, and committees.
7. Additional material that reflects the goals of the publication.

I. ASSOCIATE EDITOR RESPONSIBLITIES
The Associate editors are responsible for providing a column for each issue of the publication (exception: Issues Associate Editor provides three solicited issues articles). See operating codes for associate editors.
II. REPORTS
The editor shall prepare an annual report and present it in person at the NAKPEHE Board of Director's meeting.

The Chronicle of Physical Education in Higher Education is a publication of NAPEHE designed to provide members with information and content related to the multi-discipline concept in physical education and the issues in higher education relevant to physical education (paraphrased from the NAPEHE Mission Statement).

EDITOR OF QUEST
OPERATING CODE
I. APPOINTMENT AND TERM
The Editor is approved by the NAKPEHE Board and serves for a period of three (3) years. The Editor assumes this position following one term as Associate Editor. The term of office begins and ends in January coincident with the NAKPEHE annual conference.
II. PURPOSES AND DUTIES
Quest is published quarterly. The editor is responsible for the preparation of 3 issues per year. The fourth issue is entirely devoted to manuscripts from the American Academy of Kinesiology & Physical Education (AAKPE) annual conference. The AAKPE conference organizer is responsible for preparing and editing the fourth issue.
The specific responsibilities of the Editor are to:
A. Serve as the primary contact for Quest.
B. Implement the manuscript review process in a timely and professional manner.
C. Make final decision regarding manuscripts and contests of Quest.
D. Consider book reviews as appropriate.
E. Work closely with the editorial assistant from Human Kinetics Publishers (HKP).
F. Recommend individuals to the NAPEHE Board to serve as Associate Editor. Recommend Individuals to serve as members of the editorial board.
G. Convene meeting of the Editorial Board annually at the NAPEHE conference.
H. Work closely with associate editor and editorial board in determining future directions and policies of Quest.
I. Publicize Quest in professional venues and solicit manuscripts.
III. PLAN OF ORGANIAZATION
A. Establish and publicize all deadlines dates with the Human Kinetics Publishers.
B. Notify NAKPEHE lecturers of deadlines for publication of their lectures.
C. Provide a complete packet of materials and layout format for the publisher that includes:
1. Paper and disk copy of all edited manuscripts for each issue.
2. Table of contents for each issue.
3. Abbreviated tittles of articles for inclusion on cover of Quest.
4. Updated list of Editorial Board members.
5. List of NAKPEHE members with mailing addresses and email addresses for November issue.
6. List of guest reviewers for November issue.
7. Additional material as appropriate including conference announcement, book reviews, and more.
D. Review abstract prepared by HKP for inclusion on Quest homepage.
E. Review materials prepared by HKP regarding Quest for inclusion on HKP homepage.
IV. RESPONSIBILITY OF THE ASSOCIATE EDITOR AND MEMBERS OF THE EDITORIAL BOARD
A. The associate editor:
1. Works closely with the Editor to prepare oneself to assume the position of Editor.
2. Reviews manuscripts on a regular basis.
3. Serves in absence of the Editor.
B. Members of the Editorial Board:
1. Review manuscripts in a timely fashion, approximately 3-5 per year.
2. Attend the Editorial Board meeting at the annual NAKPEHE conference.
V. REPORTS
The editor shall prepare reports and present them in person at the NAKPEHE Board of Director's meeting. The editor also prepares an annual report for Human Kinetics Publishers.
