Position Description: Adams State College is accepting applications for an Assistant Professor in Sport Management in the Department of Human Performance and Physical Education.  This is a full-time tenure-track position beginning in August, 2012.  Candidates should hold a doctoral or terminal degree in sport management or closely related field.  Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, both online and face-to-face, that may include economics of sport, sport law, ethics in sport management, sport facility & event management, sport psychology, foundations of HPPE, international perspectives of sport management, tests and measurements, introduction to research, administration of sport, sport marketing, and other courses as needed.  Additional responsibilities include advising undergraduate and graduate students, completing service to the department, college, and discipline, and engaging in scholarly activity involving undergraduate and graduate students.  Previous academic experience including a record of scholarship is desirable.  Commitment to excellence in teaching is paramount.

Responsibilities: Primary responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in adapted physical activity and motor behavior; secondary teaching responsibilities may include other closely related courses offered within the department.  The successful candidate may be required to teach on weekdays, including evenings, and possibly weekends.  The typical teaching load is 12 units per semester.  Faculty are also responsible for: student advisement; supervision of graduate research projects; maintaining an active program of scholarly research and publication; seeking grants and outside funding for research projects in adapted physical activity and/or motor behavior; service on department, college and university committees as appropriate.  The successful candidate will work closely with faculty and staff at the Center of Achievement through Adapted Physical Activity, and with other motor behavior faculty in the department.

Qualifications:  Required: Applicants must possess a doctorate in Kinesiology or closely related field of study.  ABD candidates will be considered but must have completed the doctorate degree before August 22, 2012. Desired qualifications include: 1) Expertise and ability to teach in one or more of the following areas: adapted physical activity, motor coordination and control, motor learning, and/or motor development; 2) Ability to teach in closely related areas, such as adapted aquatics, adapted fitness, adapted physical education, biomechanics, and/or functional anatomy; 3) Evidence of successful teaching experience at the college or university level; 4) Evidence of research ability and ongoing scholarly productivity; 5) Clinical experience with adapted fitness or therapeutic exercise programs.  Applicants should possess a broad and balanced view of the discipline of Kinesiology, valuing equally the biological, socio-cultural and aesthetic knowledge of human movement across the life span. Responsibilities: Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in dance, dance science, and in the Kinesiology major core curriculum. Teach departmental courses offered in the university General Education program. Position: The Department of Kinesiology invites applications for a tenure-track position as a generalist in Kinesiology at the assistant professor level, effective September 2012. Preferred candidates will be expected to meet the traditional requirements of excellence in teaching, active scholarly and professional work, and service to the University and community.
